We’ve been saying for years that the musicians of the Toledo Jazz Orchestra are some of the best musicians in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. The list of internationally respected performers these cats have played with - jazz, classical, pop, you name it - is just as impressive as the lists from guest artists that we bring in. “Special Event: The Holiday Concert”
The Franciscan Center of Lourdes College in Sylvania, Ohio.

Join us for Toledo's newest tradition - The Holiday Concert. Hear your favorite tunes performed with a jazz twist by Toledo’s best big band orchestra. Following the traditional holiday tunes, the TJO again joins artistic forces with dancers from the Toledo School for the Arts to present The Nutcracker Suite as arranged by the legendary jazz team of Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington. This technically demanding arrangement, rarely performed today, turns the classic work by Tchaikovsky into an exceptionally unique jazz treat.

The early 1940s in America meant war. And United Service Organization shows for our troops stationed overseas. The Toledo Jazz Orchestra pays tribute to those hard-working guys and dolls who smiled and sang and danced and laughed in an effort to make their audiences - our troops - forget where they were for just a brief moment. And they had the best swing music in the world as their weapon. Benny Goodman. Glenn Miller. Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey. Need we say more?

“Toledo Treasure: Claude Black”
The Franciscan Center of Lourdes College in Sylvania, Ohio.

Toledoans have been fortunate to be able to enjoy Claude Black’s incredible talents at the piano for many years as a member of The Murphys, the house band at Murphy’s Place in downtown Toledo. Now, Claude joins the Toledo Jazz Orchestra on stage for an evening which promises to be a night you won’t soon forget. Claude has performed with so many cool cats (he was touring with Aretha Franklin when she hit the big time) that he’s earned a well-deserved international reputation of his own.
